These artisanal vegetables are grown in sandy soil fertilized by seaweed on an island off the Atlantic coast of France. They’re so delicate they must be harvested by hand, and they’re only available 10 days a year.
These are the Bonnottes de Noirmoutier, and they are one of a kind. The potato fields on the island of Noirmoutier, France, are fertilized with sea water and seaweed exclusively.

The potatoes are especially delicious because of the sandy soil in which they are grown. Bonnotte potatoes from Noirmoutier have been known to sell for more than 500 euros per kilogram. The price is due in large part to the hand-picked harvest.
